Texas Extends Deadline to Replace SNAP Benefits Lost in July Floods

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has extended the deadline for SNAP benefit recipients affected by severe weather and flooding to apply for replacement food benefits.
 

Key Details & Eligibility

  • Deadline Extension: Affected households now have until August 12, 2026, to request replacement benefits.
  • Purpose: This assistance is not an automatic or bonus payment for all SNAP cardholders; it is specifically designed to replace food bought with SNAP funds that was lost or destroyed due to the July severe weather and flooding.
  • Eligible Counties: Residents in 11 Central and South Texas counties qualify for this extension: Bandera, Blanco, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, Sutton, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala.
 

How to Request Replacement Funds

  • In Person: Recipients can submit a request by visiting a local HHSC office. Locations can be found on YourTexasBenefits.com.
  • By Mail or Fax: Those unable to visit an office due to age, disability, or distance can fill out Form H1855 and send it via mail or fax.
  • Processing Time: Once approved, replacement funds are deposited onto the recipient’s Lone Star Card within two business days.
